A driving instructor told my then 15 yr old that having a wreck was inevitable and part of growing up.

My response was that it's not a $x%%$!!!%&? certainty that he's going to wreck and that he'd better pay attention and control his car. He's 20 now. So far so good.

Took forever but we finally got it inspected and as expected, it was considered totaled. They gave us over $8000 for it after withholding $230 since we chose to keep it. I've hammered it enough that the hood closes and replaced the passenger lights plus reinstalled the bumper that was hit in the first accident. It's not as pretty as it was and the drivers door doesn't close right but it still runs and tracks straight and true. Alex says he's OK with it's condition, he will probably drive it until it dies.

I will fix both rear windows, the fuel level sensor and the central locking as those things are easy and can be done in an afternoon as opposed to the weeks it takes me to get sheet metal just right.

Good to see you didn't get the usual low dollar payout and that it still drives okay .

Did they change the title to salvage ? .

Nice result.

Let’s see pictures as you go through the repairs.

The title will change to salvage. Since we are keeping it rather than picking it up at auction to flip, there is no inspection to ensure it doesn't have stolen parts use in the rebuild. I was very surprised at the amount they gave us, I figured maybe $3000 at the most. I do wish it had gone more than 6 months before being banged up again but at least it wasn't his fault this time.

I probably won't go much beyond making the headlight point forward and get the hood to close correctly, which I've already taken care of. The inner structure is tweaked enough that the drivers fender sits proud of the door by 1/4". If I had access to a frame rack and time, I could probably get it straighter but it works as is.

The replacement headlight is an original Bosch instead of the Depo. I can't find Depo lights right now. The Bosch did require repairs, the plastic tabs for the tinnerman nuts had broken off so I had to use a bit of fiberglass and epoxy to get it to stay pointed forward and level. Plus finding a clear turn signal lens was a no go, so it's one amber, one clear.

This is it's current state.
