Axle shafts, 300SDL
I’m looking for a price on replacement axle shafts that won’t give me nosebleed. So far I found close to $400 ea. This link for Pelican has them at $252 ea. But on the list of compatible vehicles the only diesels listed are W116s and then a bunch of gassers - first and second gen W126s.
I’m a bit surprised. I had thought to look at some early 90s SELs, there are three now at my main Pick n Pull outlet. Perhaps find a pair with boots still intact, maybe get them re-greased and rebooted Anybody know? https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info/1263506410.htm?pn=126-350-64-10-INT&SVSVSI=W126&DID=46965

The shafts on PP have direct application only for:
1) cars that already have the inboard stub axles installed, and 2) have center sections w/210mm ring gears |

I feel like I’m driving the bastard child of automobiles. These guys come up on search as having it - they say fits ‘81 to ‘91 W126. But then when they lift the compatible vehicles, the 300SDL isn’t on that list. The 350SDL is. Who knows how much that list means. But so far I’m not finding a good answer. Would there be a compelling reason to have a different axle-shaft for a diesel then a gasser? My guess is that the big V8s would put out a lot of torque.

PP says Mercedes has about five on the shelf, $450 apiece.
Scary thing is, there might be a day I would want those and they’d be long gone. Right now, I’m living a tad dangerously. I found these on eBay for $270, $330 with shipping and tax. The claim is OEM with 95K. https://tinyurl.com/496zvcc6

All I can tell you is that whatever the parts website may say, the reality may be different.
I ordered axles from two different sources for my car and both were not good. One was way too short, the other one had ASR ring even though the listing specifically stated "no ASR". Be careful and compare what arrives in mail with the part that you take off your car.

After lots of issues with cheap remans, I found CVJ out of Denver will rebuild the factory axles well and for a relatively good price.
