Now this car is listed on BAT, I have zero affiliation:
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1985-mercedes-benz-300d-turbo-64/ Something I noticed in the walk-around video was that the driver's door doesn't match the adjacent fender and door. I commented in the BAT listing but I am just shocked that no one was going to point that out. To me, it is pretty obvious, especially in the 6th picture. For a car where someone is potentially going to pay 100k, it just shocks me that the seller conveniently pretends the paint is original. The meter readings are even whack. Here is the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Ixv3bGgdVM&t=5s

Nice '85 W123 300D
I hear you and am shocked to see it closing rapidly in on $30,000.00 ! .
I'd drive it too, you have to experience the 1985 one year only model to appreciate it . -Nate

I agree with Bootsie, there are already enough of these out there trashed or semi-trashed from usage. There are very few like this. This was about, if not the best mid size car your could buy in 1985. It would be nice to have a couple out there fully intact, or even mostly intact like some are indicating this example is.
Dean never really came out and said how this happened, maybe I missed it. All I noted was him saying "1500 collector owned miles". I can't see a collector in 1985 buying this and mothballing it like a rare Porsche or Ferrari. I mean it's a million plus production sedan. Usually when these types of cars pop up, it's a car wealthy people kept at their summer home so they could fly in and have something to drive into town to fetch groceries. As for feeling sorry for whoever missed out on driving it, I think the odds of a person mothballing one of these who didn't drive another one a significant amount is slim. I guess it's a possibility they missed out if it was the "summer/winter" home car, but given they chose this, odds are they had another one or some other form of Mercedes elsewhere which they did drive.

Beautiful car, awesome condition whether original or restored, for those who want a pristine example, this is the nicest I have seen from pictures and vid at least.
As to whether original or not, my suspicion is not. There are certain truths that time provides that cannot be mitigated against that are not present in this car. Most notably is rubber/petroleum based products, off gassing/shrinking and exposed aluminum (without factory coating) not oxidizing. To me it seems like a very detailed restoration to what was probably a great condition example to start with. Either way, a lot of expense has been applied to this example whether it be storage of an original or a restoration, whomever buys it will likely have a great car.
