what bosch glow plugs to use

Hi,

I have a 1986 190D 2.5 non turbo

What Bosch glow plugs do you recommend.

I pulled 3 auto lites and 2 bosch glow plugs out of the car today. It has been a little hard starting lately.

Thanks.

I tried autolite's and in 6 months of use 2 of the tips swelled to the extent I had trouble getting the 2 out.

I tried Monark glow plugs and one died like 1 year later. Bosches seem to be good for 5+ years and even at that time you might have 1 out of 5 go bad.

However glow plug life depends parky on reaming or otherwise cleaning the carbon out of the holes when the glow plugs are out and there is various makes of reamers for that.
The other major part of glow plug life is if injected fuel is well atomized and injected at the right time (injection pump timing) so it burns correctly and of course engine compression. On mine older model a valve adjustment is also important.

Bosch glow plugs are fairly common but if bought locally they are like 3 times as much as if you get them on the internet. Pelican Parts sells them as well as many other sellers.
There may be a readable number on the glow plugs themselves. However, Bosch uses 2 numbers. a simpler like 5 digit number and a longer I think it is 9 digit number. The shorter is the most frequently used.

Going to your favorite internet parts site will likely get you the Bosch part number.

The short PN is 80006, and the long one (among others) is 0250201039. Available for $9.06 on the auto parts site named after a geologic feature, as well as said part number lookup.

Thanks. I was experiencing harder than normal starting.
Two of my plugs matched the above Bosch # The other three were autolites.
I ordered 5 new Bosch plugs.
