Red face Old Guys, Jeeeeze......

In the 1970's they were building a new interstate freeway through my town and for a while it ended right across from the ARCO I worked at so we'd get dozens of lost folks in at the gas island (three pumps !) asked how to get East from here .

It was pretty simple but some of the guys there found it quite amusing to give terrible instructions guaranteed to ruin the day of that driver .

Certainly I ave been undone many times by my elders sly humor....

Back on topic - I just added 2 gallons of store bought Sunflower oil to my W115 240D fuel tank along with my annual bottle of techron diesel fuel system cleaner. We'll see if anything noticeable happens!

That’s literally a recipe for very thinned out varnish but I’ve heard some swear by adding olive oil periodically to their tanks. At least some organic solids will form but are unlikely to fully cure without the solvent(diesel) evaporating and exposed to adequate oxygen. I wouldn’t invite the potential for building solids in my fuel system but I don’t believe it would create a disaster unless your tank was already overwhelmed to the point of the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Exclamation Store Bought Oil

Oh, my ~ I hope you drive your car often .

The people who owned my 300CD before me, did this and it took forever to get all remnants of the oil out of the entire system .

Question

After reading all the cross talk on B and R fuel I have a question for the forum that i cannot figure out.

Question: Will B99 or R99 hurt the fuel sending unit on a 1978 240D if the car is run on a regular basis with these types of fuel?

Thanks

B99 and R99 are very different fuels.

Re: the sender, it’s a pretty simple device. Provided the float works, the wires are free of gunk, and the drains aren’t plugged, you could probably run it in a bucket of milk.
