1996 E300D - Replace injectors
After just replacing my injectors for the first time on this car, I would say that they should be replaced every 324,000 miles whether they need to be or not.
Smoother, just smoother everything: Starts Runs Idle Shut down They came out easy. (It was more trouble swapping out the return lines.) 4 came out with the shields "attached". The other 2 shields were loose at the bottom of their holes. They all had some carbon build up on the tips. Before replacement, the car had a lumpy idle and a "run on" after shut down. If I had a bench tester, I would imagine that they would squirt a stream, not a mist, and leak between injection cycles. The cores are worth $15 each to the place I got them from. I am thinking of keeping them for future rebuilding since I have 2 of these cars.

I have not been to the Junk Yard for Injectors for about 3 years but Injectors were $5 each out here.
If they are that cheap where you are you could pulls some and ship the back as cores and recover at least a portion of the Money and Keep your extra Injector Bodies.

Good idea, but there are no MB in junkyards around here. Let alone, W210 diesels. I wouldn't be surprised if I own over 1/2 of the MB's in the whole county.
Mileage change will be hard to see because most of the driving is done on vegetable oil. I will see if the UltraGauge shows any difference. I haven't driven it anywhere yet. I just backed it out of my wife's stall in the garage before she got home. I started the car after I installed each injector so I wouldn't have to grind on the starter to prime the fuel lines. That worked good. It got smoother and smoother as each injector was installed and always started on the first hit.

Where did you get the injectors from and were they brand new?

PeachParts does not offer them, or I would have bought them here.
I got them from a German car house in Arizona. They are re-manufactured in India. As far as I know Monarch nozzles are not available for these injectors, or I would have tried to find those.

Hmm, at just rolling over 50k, I've got a ways to go. I'll set the reminder for 10 years from now

Ahh, I did see them over there in Arizona but someone mentioned that nailing occurred shortly after. Let us know how they go and if you're happy with them, I might invest in some myself. Haven't seen Monarch for the E300D injectors but it would be nice if they began manufacturing them.

Send your cores to Kackalacky and have Greazzer rebuild them for you then put them in your other E300D. Made a world of difference in mine for about a Benjamin.
If anyone else out there has an OM606 and needs the special socket to remove the injectors let me know, I am willing to loan out my official MB socket.

First drive today. No smoke in first mile like it did before. More power. Quite, no more nailing. I think that what ever nailing may come, it cannot be as bad as the old injectors.
This probably needed to be done about 50k ago. Based on the carbon on the injector tips, I will install water injection and run a few gallons through it.

FYI - For whatever it's worth...
NOTE TO MODERATORS: The link here is to a part that is NOT AVAILABLE THROUGH PEACHPARTS or any other vendors here in the U.S. - hopefully I don't get spanked for listing it here.
While researching injectors for my 606 engine a few months ago, I found the actual Bosch *nozzle* part number, then I went hunting. I found these: Aliexpress.com : Buy GASKET 04205894 / 0420 5894 0420 2813 / 04202813 0425 9371 / 04259371 from Reliable gasket parts suppliers on Pyder Power I am NOT endorsing these. I have NO IDEA about these other than they supposedly should fit & work. Fitting is one thing - how well or how long they work is another. I've heard enough bad things about Bosch injectors rebuilt in India, and who knows how good/bad these Chinese nozzles could be. I wish that we could find GOOD nozzles from a known & reliable manufacturer for the 606's

Update
After 5000 miles there is no nailing. I am happy with them.

I have been attempting to remove my injectors from my 1996 E300 OM606. I have had diffaculty getting a socket to work. I did buy one online with the cut out, but it would not easily fit over the nipples on top of the injectors. I did a little grinding to lower the window and that worked. The space to insert the socket is really tight. I got the socket in and the injector was stuck. I did end up cracking the socket along the hex portion of the socket at one of the points - not where I ground out the window. Any advice as to how to remove a very stuck injector? Also, the injectors in the car are about 1/2 inch shorter than the rebuilt replacements. Very strange. Car has 230,000 miles.

Get a good quality socket that is made for the job. PB Blaster or Kroil around the bottom of the threads. If Possible run the Engine and get it up to operating temp before trying to unscrew it. Be sure you are turning into counter clockwise/anti-clockwise to remove it.
