'83 240D motor mount condition
3 Attachment(s)
I wanted to share the condition of the motor mounts on my 240D, from what I can tell the passenger side mount is original with the car and the driver side mount had been replaced at some point. Here is a side by side comparison of the old and the new. I bought the Lemforder mounts from FCP Euro. I was experiencing significant shaking at idle and wanted to see how much the old motor mounts were contributing.

Be sure and check the transmission mount as well. Replacing those two, changes the angle of everything, and stresses the likely original transmission mount. It’ll be FAR easier to change than the motor mounts were.
|
So did it make a difference with the new mounts? I’m ready to tackle this as well. is there a significant difference between lemforder and febi-bilstein?
|
Just think. This is every piece of rubber on these W123 chassis cars if you haven't yet yet replaced it.

On 240D's (W123s) and I believe some of the non-turbo 617 engines the part number for one side is different from the other. But, there is threads where members have used 2 of the same Lemforder Motor Mounts for the 617 Turbo Engines with no apparent issues. |

Are you referring to the T shape mount that goes under the engine near the oil pan? |

Yes it has made a huge difference at idle on startup. I would highly recommend it if you experience any vibration on idle. |
IFIR, the new mounts will compress once installed and look almost like the old ones when the engine is pushing on them. I've never taken a new mount back out to see whether it rebounds to the original unsprung height.

Those are the version 12 mounts, I bought the later version 30 mounts, try 123-241-30-13.
I have to admit I am not an expert though, Diesel911 is and he mentioned the two motor mounts are different. I couldn't source different part numbers for the two sides though so I ended up putting the same one on both sides. Whether you are okay with that or not is up to you. |
Also have a question: Is it possible to retrofit an early '77-'79 240D with the shock absorber motor mount? I can't see where the other end of the shock is mounted, presumably welded mount to the frame?
