Intake/exhaust manifold gasket condition

I wanted to share the condition of my exhaust/intake manifold gasket, it was in pieces unlike the new one I ordered from the dealer. Most of the cork was gone from between the metal shell. The cylinder 4 exhaust position was in real bad shape, I don't believe it was holding a seal so it was a good thing I replaced it even though it was a big job for me.

That’s exactly how mine looked when I removed it.

I had a neighbor walking his dog tell me that he heard ticking and that is was likely an exhaust leak. He told me he was a mechanic, that's what made me think to do this replacement.

Thats a very old gasket. The new style has been around for 15+ years.
