Delivery Valve issues

Hi!

I am having issues with a delivery valve on cylinder#2, according to the shop I took my car to, for a nailing injector. Cam and lifters are fine, compression is even across all cylinders.

I am having problems locating a delivery valve and its socket.

Any ideas on where to locate the valve, springs and seals?

This is for the 91 2.5 turbo.

Thanks!

Laser Tools 5471 Fuel Injection Pump Socket. Ebay and Amazon had them. Looks like around $32 now.
The Hazet versions cost more.

Note the sockets for the bosch fuel injection pumps on Dodges is a different size.

Ordered one from JEGS. Shipping is more than the socket!

Unfortunately on this particular item the JEGs price was $8.99 plus shipping which is one way.

Look up the rental price of a socket and paying the shipping to receive the socket and also to return the socket and that fact that you need a tracking number both ways or you cannot prove what happend to the socket during shipping.

Even the tracking number is not a help. I had a $99 car part stolen from my porch because that is where USPS put it (on or around the mail box). But, the tracking number covered the sellers butt so I could not say the seller did not ship the item.

In short in this particular case you can own the socket for the price of the rental.

If someone was particular enough that they wanted to use the Hazet socket the rental program would be the way to go. However, the torque on the delivery valve holders is low so there is no need for high strength.

Ok, I got the replacement delivery valve. The number 2 element still sits about 4 mm higher than the other four.

So, how do I fix that? it does look like a tongue and groove set up. What else to I take out of the IP to make it line up?

Good you noticed it. The Elements on the M Type Pumps have a slot on the side that has to line up with a pin that goes through the fuel injection pump housing.
I personally don't like using a magnet on that sort of part but it is the easiest way to pull the Element Barrel out enough to get it by other means. Wrap some plastic wrap around the tip of the magnet so there will be no metal to metal contact and no random metal filings will come off of the magnet.

Pull out the Element Barrel and note where the slot is lube the inside with ATF, Fuel or I used WD-40 and lube the plunger that is down inside. Gently put the barrel back over the Plunger and keep the slot lined up with the pin.

When you completely assemble it only tighten it by hand and look at the level of the delivery valve holder compared to the rest of the properly assembled ones and don't torque it till you know it is assembled right.

See the attached picture in post number 6.

If you look down and the alignment pin in the housing has been pushed away you need to remove the Side Cover and locate the pin and push it back in level with the other pin ends you can see with the cover removed.

Remember that the central part of the Delivery Valve only seats to one end of the barrel. If you are not sure which end look for wear marks.
