dealer signed off on high mileage award paperwork

so am at the nearest dealer to me 'Mercedes Benz of Greenwich CT' trying to get their signature on the high mileage award paperwork
think everyone will know the type of place this might be ... it's across the street from a Ferrari dealer !

drove right into the front and left the car running! while waiiting outside under their 'awning' for a tech or salesperson to help me. another customer sees my car and asks me 'what are you in here for? '
i say 'oh nothing really' and explain to him about the high mileage awards and ya that's my car etcetc. he goes 'oh this is mine here (we're standing in front of a brandnew black e55 amg )
and how's your car ride?' i say not bad but i guess not as good as yours ..!!! and i'm thinking ya right .. how about we trade right now.

anyhow the tech shows up and after signing all the stuff he's questioning me about the car and saying he really likes to work on w123 diesels and the new cars are crap complicated cause they're all computer controlled and the 123 diesel is simple and easy to work on .. and i'm thinking yep that's why we like 'em!

I bet my dealer wouldn't be that friendly.
They'd probably tell me to shut the engine off if I leave it running like that..
"Noise Pollution"
In fact they have done that

LOL - I had to go see the "general manager" dude to sign mine. Seemed to be a nice enough fella although he was wearing a tie.

Who do I see?

Who do I see at the dealership? My mechanic is one of their very own so maybe I should talk with him. He does work on my '85 300D on the side. He knows that I'm getting close to the 500kilometer club so I should be gettin' a badge.

He stated last time I had some work that "it's a shame that the engine runs so strong still at 304,000 miles that the body will rust around the engine".

I believe it!

fwiw i tried to talk to a tech person (the foreman) as i did not want to get involved in a 'now, would you like to come into the
showroom and see some of the newer models' type conversation i might expect from a salesman.
seriously i think that just about anyone working for the dealer could verify the mileage.

Wink

Maybe there's an advantage for the diesels not being offered in CA any more?

If I were to try that with a salesman and he tried to steer me towards a newer car, I could just tell him that I'd be only willing to buy a diesel. Then I get to watch him deflate like a balloon at 15,000 feet.

I'm just curious as to why most members cover their license numbers when posting pictures.

Privacy Dave. Plus for some of the other countries, protection from counterfeiting of license plates.

I'm as much a fan of privacy as anyone, but the plate's not covered as you're driving.
Counterfeiting of plates I could see as a concern - maybe, but privacy?

Yep, privacy. Not too long ago (less than 10 years) a young TV actress was tracked down and killed by a phsyco who got her home address compliments of the California DMV (not an isolated incident either). There has since been a change in the law, at least in this State to combat such tracking, however not all states have similar laws in effect. It is for similar reasons many choose to retain a degree of anonimity when it comes to their plates. Often, if I am posting a picture of a group of cars, I'll blot out the plates of all cars but mine - to protect the others privacy.

Actually, the incident that got the law changed in California involved Theresa Saldana, who survived the knife attack, although she was badly injured.
The privacy issue's valid I guess. I'll just keep a gun or two in my home rather than cover my plate for a photo.
