Blue Book value
 

Hi,
I've got an 1983 Mercedes 300D and I'm trying to find out the Blue Book value..to see if I may qualify for different insurance. I've looked all over the
internet, can't find anywhere. Site for Blue book does not go back to 1983.

Correct. Blue book values do not go back to 1983. Check with Hagerty Classic Car Insurance. I have a 1985 300D and pay $400 per year for full coverage with a stated value of the car being $20K. The car is in pristine condition.

Just don't want a low value if something should happen.

Hey, how you been? I used NADA for my car values. But I would agree on Hagerty, they quoted very cheap for my cars. I'm just too lazy to switch.

I've been ok, just spent a bunch for front end work...so now I have to make
the outside as nice as the inside. I do need new door sealing so the rain
won't come in so easily...

URO door weatherstripping costs ~$35/door. I replaced on driver's door of my 1984 300D about 5 years ago and still holding up. Genuine M-B brand costs ~$650/set, which seems like an IQ test. Check between here on P-P and a hard place (rock).

Most people could. As I recall, you just push the rubber ends into metal channels and wiggle until it pops in. A few places, you add a little weatherstrip cement to adhere, if there is no channel.

There was no weatherstrip adhesive on my 84 or 85SD. They simply pulled off after removing the kick plate and pushed back on. Get the corners right and the remainder follows.

I might pay $150 if I trusted the mechanic but most don't do as well as I'd like.

Scratch that. I wouldn't let most do the work and those that I would let touch my car charge more than $150. Do it yourself.

if it seems to difficult, I can leave it to him. He hasn't minded in the past
when I've purchased parts myself..Kent from ************** has some
pretty clear videos...maybe he's got one on replacing this.

It isn't difficult although I've only done my SD and not the TD (yet). Remove the kick plate (if you're replacing the seal that does on the body) then pull the seal out. Align the new seal at the upper corners and push on. Work your way around as seems logical. There was no glue on mine so I could start over if necessary.

The seal on the door itself fits into a channel and also did not have sealant on the 85SD. Push 1 edge of the seal into the channel and work the other side in. Use plastic tools and not a screwdriver so you don't poke holes in the seal. Again, make sure that the corners are correct and the other parts take care of themselves.

I see that there is glue around part of the front edge. I'd forgotten about that. The plastic pins were still available for not much money and save you the trouble of sourcing something that is close but not exact.
