What type of injector socket for injectors

Hi,

I have a 1986 190D 2.5 non-turbo.

I have a 1 1/16" socket that will remove the injector from the car just fine, but it is not deep enough to separate the injector once it is in the vise.

Can anyone give me a socket brand or part number that they use for this application?

Thanks!

As you said 1-1/16 works 27mm works. The good news is you don't need a high-quality socket for the job.

I have been using the same 1-1/16" Craftsman extra deep socket I bought around 1975. However, Sears tools have changes since that time.

The main thing is as in post #12 you were in the pic you can look inside and see how deep it is going. In post #16. I used the Cal-Hawk one time on some Injectors with no issues, but I think 12-point sockets are less likely to bend the nipples.

If your injectors are the same as the OM617.952 engine, I've used my set of deep 6-pt impact sockets from Harbor Freight. They are in a metal case. I've had to slightly bend the return tubes inward for a socket to slip over. I didn't chuck the injector in a vice, but rather used 2 sockets with beaker bars, pushing down on a concrete floor, perhaps stepping on the handle.

That is certainly an interesting approach. What type socket did you use on the injector body? (I would have guessed that an open-ended wrench would have worked admirably.)
