Gasket Material
As many mechanics make things differently I would like to know what is the most correct material to make oil pan gasket in MB E320 Bluetec.
Some use cork other use Nitrile. Both of then say that their method is the correct method. What Mercedes recommend or what are the advantages of one versus other? Thanks

Sealing compound from Mercedes is part # 003 989 98 20
That's what you use.

That doesn't work on a gasket for your coolant system. Made a thermostat gasket like that and it did last till I got home at which point it was seeping and the coolant and heat was turning it to mush.

The above. Also, this doesn't have a shelf life like regular RTV. It goes bad such that after a couple months time it takes days/weeks to cure.

I don't know about your M-B, but the best gaskets are made of silicone. Many new cars use a roundish silicone gasket captured in an aluminum channel (like a face O-ring), like you see in the Pierburg vacuum pump outside cover in older M-B diesels. Traditional flat gaskets can be cut from silicone sheet, which Real Gaskets of TN makes for many classic engines. They began making them for aircraft piston engines. I use them on my 1960's Mopars.
