Hie thee at once to your friendly Home Depot. I was in the store, not finding it in the tool section where it normally is, so I hit their website to find the aisle and bay number. It said sold out of Rotella, I clicked on another brand so I could find the location - one aisle over, turns out they’re expanding the tool section. And look what I found:

This is the Hayward store, just south of Oakland. They have 12 of the T4 and three of the T6. I feel a little bit greedy, but I’m buying all the T6. I was in Walmart a couple of days ago, nothing at all.

What, you mean there’s a chance the stuff that I just bought is defective? What was the time span on that, if it can be known with any certainty that is.

That might explain a sudden vanishing from shelves, maybe a recall. Hard to imagine Shell would make a mistake that big, dumping implies intentional moving of an wanted product.

the only spec you can trust 100% is mil-spec. The military holds oil makers to extremely high standards.

Well, I guess, I’ll need some help reading that. Do they translate that somewhere?

Maybe I have too much trust and love in my heart for my fellow man, but somehow I think Shell would want to protect their reputation. I can’t find anything about any substandard product.

Is that really $22/ jug? 4 qts?

I never buy Rotella. Maybe because of what it costs here in Canada. However, several of our chains seems to have stock - at a price! Mind you it is in 5L jugs and out 80c dollars.

I presume you guys are using the Full Synthetic?

Don't want an oil war here, but I have owned my MB diesel and other Benzes for past 35+years. I check for the MB approval on the label (but is there one for our old diesels?) and don't worry too much about who makes it. Mostly use Mobil, but sometimes Castrol or vendor no-name depending on sale price.

Yes, 4 quart jugs. The price is about the same that Costco has. I often don’t use straight T6. Everything I read says mixing it with T4 or T5 is OK, you just have slightly less than complete 100% synthetic.

Not sure where to go with that. Going with 100% T6 Is only about $20 more than using 100% T4. What I don’t know is if that is effective insurance and cheap to boot. For all I know T5 is just fine for these cars.

That seems like a good price on T4 - about $15 including tax. I don’t want to believe that Rotella is the only thing I should use, period. OTOH, I like the synthetic option, perhaps I’m being fooled into thinking that it’s best to mix with other Rotella.

I read guys on the web who say an equal mix of T4 and T6 is T5. I don’t really know how it shakes out.
