e320cdi Xmas 🎄 lites - after ECM rebuild/re-flash
Recently my ECM failed
Had indy pull and send to SIA Electronics for rebuild Then sent to Local MB shop for Reflash of software Indy- says- car started on frigid day perfectly fine.... drove perfectly fine... BUT Many lites/codes showing Oxygen sensor Cooling fan Glow plugs not communicating Battery lite intermittently displays reset couple times/cleared.... still getting O2 sensors and GP not communicating (even though -car starts perfectly fine- and freezing Battery lite- still intermittent Any ideas? I do have deleted EGR/Swirl tune... don't know if that is issue w/ MB reflash? |

I would think that if MB were to re-flash that ECU with their latest software at the dealer whatever you had coded out would be overwritten.
I haven't done anything with CDI Mercedes, but I took my VW TDI in for a timing belt and the dealer updated my software without telling me which is standard operating procedure. That update blew away my Tune, and DPF delete code out causing the car to smoke and have a bunch of check engine lights. I had to go back to the tuner and pay for a reinstall of the tune and have them code out the DPF/regen process.

I agree with BirthdayBenz, if you software had some items tuned out and it was reflashed with stock software, you lost those tunes, could be a contributor to your lights, but not so obvious.
Not sure if you have a OM648 or a OM642 in your car. If it is an OM642, the electronic control modules are very sensitive to poor electrical connections (grounds usually) and or a weak battery. Start with all of the chassis grounds in the engine bay, those specifically for the various modules and fuse boxes. A poor ground connection to these often leads to module communication errors and a intermittent battery light. Also assess the age of your battery, generally speaking, older than 3 years, it is nearing end of life and has lead to many similar issues. Hope that helps some.

Thanks- that was one of the many scenarios racing thru my head.... Indy- said- that the TUNE would most likely NOT be effected,,, cause the ECU bottom chip (or something like that were not touched)... IDK I took the car from INDY over weekend to drive/see drivable - w all these lites/codes. GP lites went away ( weak battery- from car sitting???? so long) after driving highway few hours. parked and next day-- Runs fine... new Lites randomly - on/off-- SRS on/off day 3 -- SRS-- on /off ABS--lites on-- And the anti locks brakes are indeed NOT working ESP - stability lite on/off SUPER Pissed did you tuner-- charge full price for 2nd tune?? My 1st one was pretty expensive |

The Battery red lite-- did dissappear after the long drive on 2nd day-- so I kinda guessed weak battery due to car sitting/ 4 weeks waiting for all of this. Went t MB dealer to complain... they also said they replaced the Front SAM And the ECU took ALL the programming... but - don't seem to care about the Lites/Xmas tree- attitude of - we did what was required.. pay more if u want further info on the Xmas lites. Batteries are Both 2 years old. Main-- tests 12.5 w/ probes on battery Instrument cluster-- Battery shows 12.1-- to 12.4 before cranking is THAT difference normal from Inside car versus Voltage probe directly on terminals? Lastly-- if this was indeed ALL related directly to the Tune Versus NEW MB flash.... I would think-- that these lites would be constant AND consistent from Day1 Post download to Day 3 seems like the F'n lites/errors change daily??? AM I wrong w/ my above assumption? |

I wouldn't be too concerned with the voltage differential between the posts and what you are seeing inside, it is very minor and you have voltage loss in the wiring between the battery and the instrument cluster. Again minor. If you can access your charging voltage when running just to confirm your alternator is good, you should be in the 14.1-14.6V area, you are good.
Not sure what a SAM is, please explain. ABS/Trac xmas tree lights can also be set off by messing with a feeder sensor without disconnecting the battery terminal before servicing. Many, myself included have had this happen with wheel/hub related work, where one wheel was spun when the others weren't. It throws the same codes due to the recorded speed differentials noted by the ECU, clearing does not work, the codes come back, but after several days, or mileage (have yet to confirm which) of normal running, they self clear. Since you are noticing some improvement in driving, it may be worthwhile doing that for a few more to see if it will clear up.

I know with my tune some things like pressure sensors related to DPF, O2 sensor and EGT setting were modified as to not throw a check engine light (CEL) on the dash. There were readyness monitors that would never transition to ready but no CEL was displayed. Without the tune there would have been CELs for all of those systems. I would think the GP lights and O2 stuff would stay on constantly if these were an issue. The tuner only charged me $100 for an "Update" and not the price of the full tune. I think the SRS/ABS/ESP are unrelated to ECU replacement and tune and more likely related to SAM replacement or voltage issues. Low battery can cause a bunch of wacky errors with electronics. Do you have an MB scanner that can read the specific fault codes in the front SAM?

I pulled it myself- and took it to Get tested/ Farm n Fleet AGM w/ 8 year warranty... they tested and said its fine... 850cca I do NOT have MB scanner... Indy- is getting O2 sensor issue, Fuel water sepaerator code... 1610--N10/1--front SAM 2246-A1e5 signal wire open 2195- o2 sensor-- wire open That was Day 2 Day 3 new issues/lites-- SRS, ABS, ESP NO BATTERY lite/warning-- that went away after day 1 MB--dealer who I *****ed to... Said- The codes- need to be read With STAR scanner-- Worthess on other scanners? |

They can be read using an Autel scanner. It sounds like voltage related issues to me.

Basically- he thinks the SRS/ABS warnings are most likely related to battery /voltage issue from car standing so long- so I will trickle charge and see where that goes ( In fact Day 4 and those 2 issues seemed to go away by end of driving/day- so Battery probably starting to get charged) The CEL is still on... and I discussed w/ MB and he said -like you - that the o2 sensor is probably part of the "Tune/Delete" that is now being seen/treated differently form the New MB software download... therefore seen as a Malfunctioned O2 sensor. Still curious about the N10/1 - is related to the SAM itself- and Is new/MB installed? But perhaps it is basically related to " communication" or lack of with O2 or other deleted parts? |
