**My diesels LOVE 76 Renewable Diesel**
Or should I say both my diesel W123 Mercedes' (617a & 617na) love the high cetane rating in the Renewable Diesel offered at my local 76 Stations here in Northern California.
Time will tell what this fuel will do to my beloved engines. For now, I'm enjoying the boost in performance, quieter running and better than average mileage. Price is about the same as regular diesel (~$5/gal.) Anybody else having the same results running this fuel? I feel bad for those that live in states where this fuel is not yet available. It will be interesting to share and see how it effects, if at all, our diesels over time. I love my W123's! -Chris |

Renewable Diesel
Give Propel HPR a try, my E320 CDI loves it and it's all I buy. It's 100 percent Renewable diesel. I also keep some around the hose, it makes a great cleaner for greasy tool and such.

Pretty sure it's the exact same stuff. Possibly even from the same supplier (Neste)

Isn't that fuel around 60 cetane? It's really good stuff.

UnoCal 76 Renewable Diesel Fuel
I tried it because when it first came to Los Angeles it was cheaper than Propel but in a few months it's not more than Dino Diesel so back to Propel I went....
I didn't really feel any improvement but renewable fuels that don't screw up your engine are IMO, a very good thing . I enjoin all here to at least give them a try . Unlike B99 from years ago, these new renewable fuels DO NOT attack any fuel hose nor cause leaks / seeps .

Looking at the map here, that’s sort of an odd cluster. Would be nice to see a few stations on I-5 up north towards the border.

My two W123's still love 76 Diesel... but....
Of course, according to the posted fuel details on the 76 website, their Renewable Diesel has a cetane rating of 70.
This number explains why both my OM617's like the fuel so much. Regular diesel has a cetane rating of 40-52. B99 has/had a cetane rating of about 55. I can't find B99 or B whatever anywhere anymore here in Northern California which is a shame since all my Turbo Diesels (OM617a's) loved that fuel. Now about the Renewable Diesel: I am concerned about the renewable aspect of this latest diesel. Not so much the 'renewable' aspect but what the term means in regard to what it's based on. They are vague on details, or so it seems to me. I did read that *sugars and *biofuels are likely to be present. Sugars in my fuel coagulating over the years will/can be a problem for my IP and fuel system from what I've read over the years. Is there something I'm missing about this new diesel? Or is this a granted worry? Maybe regular diesel is what I should stay with? -Chris |

Try alternating!
My nearest Union 76 station with that renewable diesel fuel is like 40 minutes away. I use it evry other time that I am in the area. Otherwise I use dino. If you use 50-50 percentages, that may lessen your risk worry.

On the propel website, they claim that their diesel, which they call Diesel HPR (I use “High Performance Racing” as a mnemonic trick, not sure what the letters actually stand for) has a cetane rating of 75+.
I should study up on it more, but I think one ingredient is rendered animal fat. I know that there is a lot of waste organ meat that the food industry has to get rid of somehow. This would make it unattractive to devoted animal rights activist. I am more and more vegan all the time, but I don’t have any illusions about converting the rest of the world so I have no problem with the fuel. https://propelfuels.com/our_fuels?gclid=CjwKCAiAsNKQBhAPEiwAB-I5zYwvm0gOQEMLkUZfxOe2Jt5c83Q3SYt-oi4zgy4Xpp3aTKt2MpiWtBoCd0AQAvD_BwE
