Smile Plodding Along In The Rain

It's been cool and windy here in So. Cal., early this morning (before 4AM) a light rain began falling and I hit the road in my trusty 1982 240D slushbox .

I love this car, I see others sliding around on the oily pavement, I just cruise on by .

Comfy, radio softly playing and heater set on low, life is good .

Those skinny tires are great in the rain aren't they? Isn't it nice to have a manual heater control where you set the cable controlled valve to be as open as you desire? letting in just the right amount of hot coolant into the heat exchanger . That combined with manual fan speed selection...Just set the fan on your desired speed no surprises of blasting air or changing temperatures. Simplicity.

Thumbs up Back To The Basics

Yes indeedy ! .

I grew up in snow country and learned early on that skinny tires are the best in snow too .

I sometimes think I should have kept my '78 300CD, it too was very basic and had more power than my 240D does yet was a simple car .

I prefer the manual windows and stuff better too .

My '84 300CD was in storage, I recently got it out and drove it home, of course when I went to street park it the driver's side power window decided to remain down... .

I briefly touched the 'down' button and the window dropped a bit so I'm guessing it needs a new switch .

Some years ago I collected a bunch of old switches and took them all apart, cleaned out the grease and dirt, polished the contacts then re assembled using mix and match to get nice unworn buttons etc....

Always some little thing to do but on these W123's it's rarely any problem to set right again .

I find my 240D to be very similar to my old 1950's VW Beetles except not so crude .
