W123 Shift Lever on Transmission Replacement

Hi everyone,

Was looking under my car and saw that my shift lever which attaches to the transmission housing is heavily rusted. It is also missing its bushing which is making the shifter very sloppy.

Here is a picture of the lever I am talking about:

The ************** guy is pointing to it with his pointer finger.

I haven't been able to find a source for these online. Does anyone know where a decent used one can be purchased? Or what the part # is?

Thanks in advance

I'd suggest posting in the used parts wanted and for sale section. Start the title with WTB W123 Auto Trans Shift Lever.

Good luck!!!

Can't just buy the snap in bushing ? .

I no longer have the part #'s but these were cheap from the M-B Classic Center a couple years ago .

Have the bushings ordered, it is just that the lever itself is pretty rusty.

Post Flash Rust

The lever is easy to remove, wire brush it or soak in diluted phosphoric acid or CLR etc....

Agree. No need to find a new lever, just rust treat it, paint it, etc. Push in bushings with it out of car, makes it easy...

A dab of dish soap, silicone lube or a soak in hot water helps with bushing installation.

Skeppa,

I am pretty sure that my 83 240D needs exactly the same bushings, where did you order? I am in the process of moving and need to sell cars and this is the only things stopping it from being a good daily driver.
Thanks,
S

I found the part #s for the bushings online and ordered from pelicanparts I believe. The local dealership may also have them at a reasonable price.

I ended up cleaning my lever and installing the bushings after. Worked well and saved me some $.
