Om606 nailing HARD after new nozzles

I sent the injectors to be rebuilt to stock pressures, new nozzles made by bosio. New heat shields, installed correctly. OEM parts all the way. Injectors torqued to spec. Any ideas why it’s nailing like a ball peen hammer on a nail? All the fuel lines plastic have been replaced. There is zero leaks in the system. Car was quieter before the nozzles.

Do the nozzles need time ti break in a few hundred miles? Car has 228k. Religious oil changes. I was going to add cetane booster and take it down the highway up to 80 and see if it helps.

You did not say why the Injectors were rebuilt nor if they were rebuilt by someone who lapped the interior parts or kept the two parts of the new nozzles that are mated together as a set exclusive to each nozzle.

With the presumption that everything else was done correctly (it is easy to get the heat shields in upside down).

Normal stuff. Bosio's nozzles are a bit louder. Next people have reported that nailing demised in use.

They say changing the opening pressure on the injectors changes the timing a bit. Retiming the fuel injection pump may or may not help depending on what the cause is.

Did the engine sit unused for a long time? If so sticking piston rings can cause low compression which can contribute to nailing.

Air in the system can cause nailing.

Does the nailing decrease after the engine is up to the full temp?

They were taken apart fully shimmed and pressure was reset. The car is used frequently, there is no air all the fuel lines have been fixed under the hood with replacement lines and new o rings. It nails harder as it warms up. It was much quieter before this. It’s exclusive to the new injectors. Heat shields I checked all of them before I screwed the injector in to make sure they’re correct side up.

Try the cetane booster. The problem might be with the fuel you use. It sounds as though you have the usual suspects eliminated.

This subject I have seen over the years come and go on the forum and most threads always recommend putting at least a 1000 miles on the car and normally this cures the nailing.

Yes! I also experienced this. Needed some break in time.

How is your engine power? Is it difficult to start? If you have issues with either of these I would worry, but if not, you may be OK.

When I rebuild mine I got a lot more power immediately, but it sounded like a rock crusher for the first 500 miles. Then all was smooth sailing.

Don't want to be a broken record, but this was my experience too. Cetane booster (almost any kind) in the fuel will help. And, it takes time for them to break in. In my case it was Firad nozzles in my om617 and it only took a few miles.

Thanks. I will add some cetane booster. Good to hear it needs some break in.

It fires up 10x better than it did. Hot starts are a breeze. Prior they were extended cranks. The power prior was actually good. It had some blue smoke on startup thst went away with new injectors. I’ll take her on a few trips down the highway and wait for this noise to go away.

I have wondered about this on and off for a long time.

Any possibility air is in the Hard lines and takes a long time to work it's way out? There has to be some form of rational explanation?
