The only V8 Diesel ever produced by Mercedes-Benz

My friend Blue Nelson visited a truck museum in Oregon, and saw this: A 1984 Freightliner with the only V8 Diesel ever produced by Mercedes-Benz

Yes, after posting I looked it up, and found the same thing (I should have checked it out before posting, but I trusted the museum and their sign).
I wonder why The sign says only one produced?

I believe freightliner sold a lot of them. Not that popular though. I have always wondered why European truck diesels like Mann have never been in north America.
