removing kick panels to find leaks
Is there a technique for removing the plastic driver and passenger side kick panels? When I pry on them I can see a 3 pronged plastic fastener in the center which seems to be holding the whole piece on. Should I just use more force and pry out in this area?
Both sides leak during rainstorms near where the vacuum lines run by the front corners of the footwell. |

They slide to the rear of the car to remove.

I’d suspect a leaking windshield seal. I had a 1985 that leaked in those areas when it rained. The gasket looked ok but leaked both corners.

I'll give that a try. It could be the windshield seal. There is also an area where the vacuum lines head down around the wheel well/ firewall where I can see a bunch of leaves and dirt but it is hard to get to to clean out or see if/where it is leaking.

It's a 1990 w124.

Have you checked the windshield gutter drains? Are the upper sections installed in the lower ones? Lower ones flowing correctly?
I’m interested in this too because I think my 91 300d has some water entry but not sure from where.

Yes I cleaned out the top gutter, re inserted the down tube on one side, flushed both sides and they flow pretty well. I also took out the rubber grommet at the bottom and cleaned that. Cleaned the center drain screen too. I suppose it might be helpful now to run a hose into each one for a while to clean out any remaining sediment, but I think it's clean enough to flow.
I think the leak is somewhere else. I haven't cleaned the sunroof drains yet. It could be that, or the window seal, or something behind the wheel well surround or under the front quarter panel. |

Can also be through a door if the vapor barrier is not adhered properly at the bottom. Or a bad door seal. I would want to start with the sunroof drains, and check where they are draining to. They could be draining to a spot that then allows water entry. Can you post pictures of the drains and their exit locations?

Windshield leaks are not common on W124's. Windshield leaks on W123 are practically guaranteed.
A wet floor on a W124 is often due to plugged rocker drains and if let go long enough, rusted rocker panels. Good luck!!!

I too am new to the w124. How does the water get into the rockers? It literally fills them and then it overflows through some rubber plug into the floorboards?
