New keys still available?

From Mercedes from the vin numbers on each vehicle. For a 1977 and 1984 300ds? Somehow the ones we had got lost. Going to be difficult if they discontinued that service.

Local dealers are newish. Probably this is going to be a pain in the posterior.

Take your title and visit the dealer. Not the end of the world at all.

You see blanks every so often being sold on eBay. Pretty sure the dealer obsoleted that age keys.

I need the cutting code for those keys. As you said blanks are still available on ebay for certain. Mercedes looks it up from the vin number I provide.

I just cannot find the original keys. No ideal at all where they are. I had heard they had discontinued the service but was unsure. For these earlier cars.

Steel key blanks though? The brass ones are garbage for these cars, which I've never been able to figure out. They just wear down quickly until they no longer work, all the while filling the mechanism with fine brass powder.

Always meant to ask you, is this a Canadian thing? Ideal vs idea?

Could by as there are quite a few words that are spelled differently in Canada. Gives me pause at times. American is color for example Canadian is colour.

Or it just might be all the beer we guzzle? At least we do not do the steriotype thing all that often.

I faxed a title copy and my driver's license to my nearest dealer in Boise and got a new key made from the vin. I think it was about $20. That was a yr or two ago. ph 208 377-3900.
hope they still do this as I need another copy made for another car.

They are still available but if they look up the part number in the EPC it might be NLA. They have to look at the key chart to get the correct current part number. I just went thru this on a 79 116 and the told me it was NLA. I printed off the key chart and took it with me the next time and told them which part number to order. It came in and worked fine. Unfortunately my dealer charged $49 which is way over list price on these.

I "modified" the ignition cylinder on my 300D. It can now be started with any key! Even a screwdriver

It is/was possible to buy aftermarket lock cylinders with keys. May be a way to go if Mercedes can't make a key.
