1986 300 SDL Window Regulator

Recently I bought a drivers side front window regulator for my 300 SDL, but my mechanic indicated it was the wrong part. Apparently there were two different vendors for this part in 1986, BROS and Reitter. The BROS is the wrong variant, so it must be the latter. Does anyone on the forum know of a good source for this part, hopefully less than Mercedes near $300?

Also, one day when I sat down on the comfortable leather front passenger' s I heard a boing like out of a Three Stooges film, and felt what I interpreted as the partial collapse of one spring. Is there a way to fix this?

Thanks!

I think any 126 regulator will work as long as you get the correct motor with it. The regulator is door and side specific ie RF only fits RF but any RF part will fit any 126.

Scalp some from a yard if there are any available. Clean and lube the entire track before installing. Now is a good time to do the others too.

Post W126 Window Lifts

Correct ~ two suppliers, either one fits right in if you have the electric motor .

One is pot metal and the other is stamped tin, both tend to bend and once bent are worthless .

Post W126 Seat Box Springs

IIRC the front seats changed in the 1985 model year .

Getting an unbroken passenger side seat box should be dead easy and cheap to boot .

In my W123's I routinely use perfect low mileage passenger side seat boxes to bring broken driver's seats back to full service .

In lots and lots of W126's and a few W123's you'll find a black hard rubber cylinder in the front edge coil springs ~ these will give you far more support and comfort and are cheap ($6) from the M-B Classic Center or free of you check out some dead junkyard seats .

I don't know for a fact if the passenger side W126 is the same but I'd be shocked if not, you'll be able to tell at a glance without taking the seat apart .

BE CAREFUL WHEN TAKING THE W126 POWER SEAT APART ! .there are myriad tiny little nylon buttons that fit here and there to help things move, I highly suggest spreading out a large light colored bed sheet ($5 from any thrift store) as those little buggers like to roll away and cause me headaches looking for them .

Is there a alternate term to seat box? Came up blank on eBay.

Nice to know it's replaceable!

Seat cushion = seat cushion frame (aka spring box) + pad + cover.
New seat cushion frame part number = A1269101222 (prior 116, 123, 126 versions NLA or NOS).

Any seat cushion from a DS or PS front seat in W116, W123 or W126 model can be swapped.
Late W126 seat cushions were swapped into both 'Desert Rose" and 'Stormcloud'

When I entered the part number I got this eBay page:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/384989607069?hash=item59a32b349d:g:iM4AAOSw8ApixDEk

Does this include more parts than just the springbox?

Thanks!

A seat cushion (Item 5) is made of 3 separate parts: a seat cushion frame, a pad, and a cover.

The seat cushion frame (aka spring box) is Item 8 (MB part Number A1269101222).

The seat pad is Item 11.
The cover is Item 14.

Thank you Alec300SD for breaking it all down for me. I really appreciate it, as it is extremely helpful.

So it seems I may only need the springbox. My seats are dark leather and in perfect condition.

On my quest to fix the things that are wrong with the car, our most recent repair was the air conditioning system, and now it works extraordinarily well… Much better than my 1987 300D, and my previous 1987 300 SDL.

What great cars!
Before that I replace the driveshaft with a rebuilt from DriveShaft Specialists of San Antonio Texas. This was recommended by a forum member, and the car runs much smoother now.

Need New Radiator 1986 300 SDL

So I need a new radiator, and I find that I can purchase a BEHR OEM part, but it is made of plastic with an aluminum core. I have heard so many different things about plastic versus aluminum, but given that it is made by BEHR, is it a good radiator?

Post Radiator Choices

The BEHR's are supposed to be pretty good .

NISSIN is made in......?Denmark? and supposedly has a lifetime guarantee, we'll see if I live long enough .

Certainly the NISSIN radiator has LARGER tubes when compared to the BEHR one .

I popped for the NISSIN one because I had the neck just fall off whilst I was driving on the original BEHR .

Keep us posted please .

Is Behr making radiators for SDLs again? They have been discontinued for many years. If not you will have to get a full aluminum one, which is fine. For the seat springs, I would recommend getting the entire seat base (just unbolt/unplug it and take the back off) from a later W126 in pick-n-pull and swap your cover and seat back onto it. Those have extra springs compared to the old style and hold up a lot better. It's quite a project to swap the spring part from another seat onto the tracks from your seat. It takes some practice but the seats are not too hard to work on once you figure out how they are assembled.

Where exactly can I find/buy these foam inserts for the seats? Phone Number/address.. I searched MB Classic center- it seems to go to a dealership?

Post W126 Seat Buns

I ass-U-me you're asking about the bottom foam cushion ? .

I don't remember where I saw them for sale, once I had the correct part number I just began my usual internet searching and found them for sale in the U.S.A. .
