1981 300SD - Smashed Front Passenger Window
Last night, a vandal smashed the front passenger window of my 1981 300SD. Thankfully, there was nothing valuable in the car, but they threw everything in the car out into the street . I made a claim with my insurance (USAA) and they connected me with SafeLite, who said they might not be able to find a replacement window.
I'd really appreciate any tips on where I could source a new window. Should I try to find a replacement window in a local scrapyard (for 1981-1985 W126 300SD)? I've also looked online and found a part that looks right: https://mbzparts.com/mercedes-door-window-glass-front-right-w126-sedan/ I'm in Washington, DC, so I'd also be grateful for any leads you might have in the area for sourcing a replacement or getting help with the repair. Thank you for reading. |

You can give Row52 a try to see if you can find one in a wrecking yard. I thought it was nation wide and covered most if not all wrecking yards but it may only be for the ones branded Pick and Pull. A quick check for 300's within 500 miles of 20010 had hits in North Carolina and Massachusetts.
Enter the span of years in this format, 79-91 This is probably too big a spread as there were changes to the body so you will have to weed the results to dial it in. If you know the span of versions that have the part you need, enter that. Pick Mercedes for make. One at a time, pick every model number that came in the W126 chassis. It's a pain and to avoid doing it each time, I signed up so that I only had to create each filter once and receive an email when a new car shows up that fits. Since I'm looking for diesel parts, I have to pay attention to VIN numbers, You may have to do the same if there are Gen I and Gen II versions. Michael

Thank you for your advice Michael. Not finding any replacements near me, so I think I'll try my luck on eBay or another online source.

Ask for one in our parts wanted or for sale section. This should not be a big deal really. Gas or diesel car does not matter as long as the years that glass was used in are known,

I have one for sale now on Sacramento craigslist cheap ($70?, forget), but shipping it would be pricey, so look for one locally.
