240D delayed rpm decrease between shifts

Hello,

I have a lot of experience with other old Benz diesels but not the OM616.

This one is a 4 speed manual.

I have adjusted the various ball/sockets, cable (right hand drive model), 'shock' and perhaps some other things throttle related. It is almost as if the spring that returns the mechanism to 'idle' position is no longer strong enough... as if there is some sort of 'block' both delaying delivery of fuel as well as decreasing delivery of fuel between shifts.

Hard to explain hopefully that makes sense. From what I've read, when you start messing with these pumps without knowing what you're doing, you could be in a world of hurt trying to get it back to 'normal'.

It's not the filters nor the in tank strainer as I've done those jobs, and keep an eye on them.

I HAVE used straight, new vegetable oil but it has always acted this way since I purchased it, and I believe the previous owner/s did NOT use veg.

Thanks!

My '78 240D did this due to binding between the plastic bushings and the horizontal accelerator shaft attached to the firewall.

Good luck!!!
