Daily driver anyone?

Just curious.....How many people here use a W123 as a daily driver? I've been using my 83 300D a a daily for almost 11 years now. Granted I have a backup to use when small issues put it out of service for a few days, but am I the exception rather than the rule. Again, just curious.

My family has 3 123s and one 115 in daily driver status. Having only 3 drivers in the family, our 84 TD is our long road trip vacation car and backup for the others but its driven daily when another needs service, and has already done a 3500 mile vacation trip this year.

Please define what is DD? Round trip miles per day?

If it was the only car available then I doubt anyone would depend on a 30+ years old car. The newest w123 is 1985 so making it 37 years or older. Just enjoy the car if it runs.

You are brave. Puttering around town or commute a fair distance?

My wife's DD ( 1987 300D ) has 407K miles and she commutes 140 miles round trip. I think we called AAA to tow home 2 times in the last 10 years. It is very reliable but still we have back up cars for occasional service.

Yes, I'm driving my '83 240D to work and church. Bought studded tires for it, going to try driving it through the winter. My '89 diesel truck is my main backup vehicle.

The only cars we have are 123's and the single 115. We do have one farm truck from the 90s.
Each car seems to get between 12-15K a year put on it except the 84 used for road trips. It has been seeing only about 5 or 6000 a year.
My wife's 85 has been her daily driver for 15 years and in that time we have put almost 200,000 miles on it.
Why would a maintained 37 year old car be any less reliable than a newer one?

Bit of both… Los Angeles city driving and the odd 1200 mile return trip to northern CA. If something were to happen in town, I could always call an Uber.
Re: greater distances, I carry my tools in the trunk. To date, the only thing that’s ever taken me off the road was a seized compressor, and all that required was a knife.

I've been using my 1984 300D for the last 13 years as a daily. I've had to a fair bit of rust repair in the floors for the last two years and its been off the road (COVID really messed up the timing on the repairs).

I plan to have it back in daily driving service pretty soon.

Its commuted anywhere from 14 to 100 miles per day. Usually around 60 miles per day. I've tracked almost every mile of fuel usage and it'll do 27 mpg on a regular basis.

I use my 1982 300CD as my daily driver. Drive it to the office every day which is only about 5 miles. But, If I need to go out of town, I take the 300CD. For me, the A/C is a necessity. For 3 years I had 2 300CDs. Now, I have just the Sahara Yellow one.

Daily fleet since 2004 , you could find them parked up in driveways in almost every corner of Houston , now not so much .Ive learned most every noise associated with common issues now , Today was the tapping at the front of the motor , hoping it’s the vacuum pump that let go .
