window fuses are blowing...
I've seen many an ad in newspapers and ebay and such about w123's for sale that quote "rear passenger window doesn't work". Well, all of a sudden my '85 300TDT has developed the same problem...try to lower the window and the fuse belows immediately.
If I replace the fuse and do not touch the window switch then the drivers side front works just fine. as soon as I touch the switch either on the console or the door...bang, blown fuse. I removed the door panel, disconnected the window harness and found the green and brown wire to the window motor. checked it with an ohm meter and all looked ok so I ran +12V and gnd directly from the battery to the green and brown wires to the motor and the motor wnet up just fine. I reversed the wires and the window went down fine, SO I expect that the motor is OK. ANYONE have any ideas on where I go from here? Is this a common problem with w123's? I appreciate all of the help....:p |
One problem area is the rubber conduit that runs between the B pillar and the rear door, the wires inside that conduit can start cracking the insulation due to all the door opening and closing, eventually you can have a short circuit inside that conduit.
