Bad brakes

On the car I recently won from auction (91 350SD w/206k). Totally drivable. Drives nicely. Stops well.

This will be a fun repair….

Well I’ve been having a heck of a time with the tensioner.

Replaced the VC gasket, intake was nice and clean.

Prior records indicate HG around 160k.

Has a 134a retrofit that I need to undo (empty system).

Minor water leaks.

Nice clean body, decent interior.

Sunroof doesn’t work.

It’s a keeper for 300k miles I’d think.

Thumbs up PROGRESS !

Is there a detailed thread on the undoing of an R134a A/C system ? .

My W123's system is on R134a and it works okay but not great until I get over 5,000 feet then I suddenly get 38* F out the dashboard vents .

I'm pondering taking it to 'Freeze-12' or similar .

TIA,

Yeah, once you pry the caliper off the disc, you shouldn’t have much trouble replacing the rotor.
At least the disc shouldn’t trouble ya much if it won’t release.

Just a new and improved ABS, guaranteed never to lock up...

Seriously though, what a separation. Have there ever been 2 piece rotors made for these cars? If not, looks like someone drove it while that wheel was cherry red for a long time.

Good luck

Post Partioned Brake Rotors / Drums

No, it prolly never got hot although it certainly made scraping or grinding noises for a while .

I used to get cars in with this sort of damage or drum brakes with the cut off drum holding the ruined brake shoes in place at least once a year .

I was pretty surprised that they were like this. And that the brake caliper has such a hold. I have to wonder if it’s a collapsed brake hose that caused it, and still to this day holds it tight?

Post Locked / Dragging Brakes

Could well be ~ I went up to Lake Tahoe many decades ago to rescue a 1953 VW DeLuxe # 113 Beetle, the "Zwitter" version with split rear windows .

I drove it down the mountains to Nevada Rt. 50 ("The Loneliest Road In America") and at the bottom when I stopped the left front brake let out a huge cloud of stinking white smoke .

It turned out a hard bit of something was caught in the flex hose and not allowing the brake shoes to retract .

There's always something new or different to learn, often things "that don't work like that !" .

Just one of the joys of states that use salt on the roads; one piston in a caliper seized, and the other one free, and crack.
