sorry for the late reply, Jake12tech i would like to know how to do that trick of running the engine on high grade non hydrated vegetable oil to see if that fixes the blowby and for the apocalypse.

Routine Service

Most people just drive and don't bother actually keeping track of the miles driven .

Hence any vehicle tends to need service at least once a year .

That seems like decent logic. My odometer/speedo is needing repair so your reasoning suits me just fine. Although, I estimate my mileage at 5000 per year, so maybe every other year is okay. I may check sooner because the valves were definitely out of spec last time.

Valve Adjust

I learned over decades of Customer service that even the honest ones don't keep records .

Once the initial valve adjust is done it is prudent to run it no more than 1,000 miles before checking it again and making further adjustments as necessary .

Then you're good to go .

Well that is a phenomenal running 240D. That’s a great start for an older diesel. I would say there’s nothing to worry about.

That engine has a nice distinct "sharp clack" sound. That is a good indicator of solid compression, as they wear out they lose that sound and get quiet. Had a '78 240D that was really quiet but wouldn't start on mild days. A 0 .5 mm overbore, new pistons/rings and a valve job brought back the clack noise and excellent cold starts in extremely cold conditions.
