Nate, any HF metric o-ring kit will contain enough for the rest of your life.

Post O-Rings

Thanx Shern ;

The deal is : I need them to withstand Diesel contaminated oil and so much of HF's rubber/plastic things degrade so fast it's dangerous to use them .

Thumbs up O-Ring Search

Thanx Gentlemen ! .

Oddly enough, I coudn't find them at Pelican Parts and I'm working up an order ~ could you tell me how you located them there ? .

Sadly, the NAPA partshaus us geezers remember so well isn't quite the same and there's none anywhere near me .

They closed a few years ago .

TIA,

TIA,
If you are willing to buy the kit at AutoZone Dorman has a metric O-ring assortment. Not Viton. No does there seem to be a need for Viton. If you used the 7 mm on the upper one and the 6 on the lower one you got like 24 sets of O-rings to change. Also, one of the O-rings fits the spin on fuel filter bolt.

This is from a past thread in a post I made: "utozone sells the Autozone sells a Metric O-ring assortment made by Dorman for less than $8.
Dorman Metric 172 piece O-ring Value Pack #799-450
In it are 24 of the 6mmIDx10mmODx2mmW O-rings that you need for the bottom of the Oil Filter Stem: enough for 12 O-ring changes if you use the same sized O-rings each time you change it.

6mmIDx10mmODx2mmW is the stock size for both O-rings.
On 617.952s you can substitute a 7mmx11mmx2mm in the upper groove on the Oil Filter Stem instead of the 6mmx10mmx2mm (This was suggested by another member and I did it and it works; since I bought the kit I do this on mine.). If you do that you have enough O-rings for 24 O-ring changes."

You see from above that if you changed the O-filter tube stem O-rings once a year you would nave 24 years' worth to use up.

Harbor Freight has metric assortments, and they also sell assortments of Viton O-rings, but I did not pay attention to the sizes.

I have 4 boxes of different company's O-ring assortments. Many many times they have saved me from having to leave home to go search for a single O-ring and if found have to buy it overpriced.

I also have copper washer assortments.

I have also used the O-rings on plumbing issues.

Post I appreciate your help

Thank you .

I'll give that a go and see how it turns out .

Most of Dorman's rubber and plastic products are now crappy Chinese, I use a fair bit of their rubber PCV grommets and so on and they don't last long even on gasoline engines .

As it turns, I drive 800 + miles every week when I'm not on vacation or road rallies .

The three day tour I took two weeks ago I put 400 + miles on each day .

Point being, I change my oil and filter more than once a year .

My old Benzo isn't a show queen nor hobby car, I drive it hard, far and wide .

I LOVE this old thing .

AutoZoo is fine, I'll buy anywhere I can get what I need .

Pelican Parts link is https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info/0159979448.htm?pn=015-997-94-48-INT&SVSVSI=2369&DID=18234

I wasn’t able to find it when entering a 1982 240D, but it’s listed for my 82 300D-T. Listed under Basic Maintenance category- filters, and so on.

I don't change my oil filter O-rings every time I change the oil. Not even the one big on the lid.

You at least have the sizes to search for viton O-rings if that is want you want.

??

You're not Marshall......

I'm retired too and some days it seems like I'm working harder than ever .

I'm off to investigate Harbor Fright O-Rings and a pop rivet too today, I'm still addressing 30 year ago damage I discovered to the heater controls .

Yesterday I finally found some undamaged plastic parts , whew .

Thumbs up Still Doing The Do

Thank you kind Sir .

As it turned out I was out chasing parts all day, I did get lots done but the primary broken plastic part I found, removed and bought turned out to have a small crack in it so I have to go buy some ABS glue stuff, my son sent me a picture of what he thinks will do the job .

It takes extra time because at the end of each work I have to re assemble it so I can drive it, plus I of course spend far too much time cleaning the never bits that aren't accessible when things are assembled .

Good thing I like this old lump .

6 & 7mm?

Are the two o rings supposed to be different sizes?

I’ve always just ordered a bunch and changed them with all the same size.

Of course any of these part sites have horrible organization, search, and anything you look for tends to be returned as stupid tools and oil additives instead of needed parts. Stinks.
