jumpy gauges
Hi,
My oil pressure gauge has done the usual vibration after the oil has reached operating temp and I have driven fast for a long way. Thats usual, however, lately I have noticed my fuel gauge doesnt always register the correct amount, and it often jumps up and down. COuld it be the float in my gas tank or a sender unit? WHat should I check? I am also wary of the gauge itself, as I think there is a problem in the whole gauge assembly, as the seat belt warning lamp comes on intermittently, and sometimes after leaving the car overnight or longer, the seat belt light will come on for no reason, then start to flicker, and the glow plug light will start to flicker on, and the tachometer reading will drop. I dont know if the two are related, but any info/advice would be most appreciated. Thanks JMH |

On my old '85 300CD everytime I would put on my turn signal my gas gauge would bounce to the beat of the relay. While amusing, it bothered me. I went to the junk yard and bought a new oil/fuel/temp cluster for $15 and installed it and the problem was solved.
Thanks go to the CD ROM electrical section because I saw that these were on the same circuit. On my 'new' '85 300CD, the fuel gauge seems to work fine until it reaches 1/4 left. Then it is extremely unreliable. I had the reserve light come on after only driving 300 miles. I cleaned out the fuel sender hoping that would solve the problem, but it didn't. So, off to the MB junk yard again. No worries because I have a list as long as my arm. Craig Craig
