Moisture in the car after a rain
I seem to be getting a lot of moisture in the car, especially after a rain. The inside windshield and rear window have a lot of moisture on them, but none of the side windows do which is weird.
I thought maybe there was a trunk leak but I checked and it's perfectly dry. Any suggestions? Thanks 1991 300d 245k |

Check under the carpets front and rear. If wet, most likely a windshield seal leak. If equipped with a sun roof, pour a little water down the corner drains and check that it exits thru the A pillars and into the front wheel wells rear drains thru the rear pillars. If the trunk area is dry, the rear window seal is probably OK. Doors can also build up moisture inside if the drains are plugged.

Where are you getting moisture? One specific location? Front? Back?

On a W124 I don't think windshield leaks are very common. Check for plugged sunroof drains and plugged rocker panel drains.
Good luck!!!

One place I think these cars can leak is under the fender near the bottom edge of body. I am pretty sure that is where mine is leaking, since I have checked the battery area and corresponding area on drivers side, and just had the windshield replaced. I saw a w124 at a junkyard with the fender off and I was looking at that area, because that's where the water is coming from on my car. IIRC there are seams there and an area where the water sits and rusts the seam. My car leaks more when the car is parked flat or with the nose down. I also had trunk leaks, at the seams of the trunk lid front left and rt corner, and leaks in the seal gutter on the left side, mostly by the front of the trunk lid seal. There is still a small amount getting in that is perhaps the seam at the bottom of the trunk lid, which fills the trunk lid with water, and at the antenna. When they get this old there are a lot of places they can leak. The front sunroof drains are easy to see and clean...that wasn't my problem.
So my next step is to pull the fender and rustproof/seal that up. |

And yes the two side windshield drains and center drain need to be checked and cleaned fairly frequently.

My two 124 cars just have whatever OE lining, and then some plugs. On my white 1991, some of the plugs ere missing for some reason. Driving then lets water in through the rockers and rear floor pan somehow. If those plugs are not sealing tight that can be an issue. But are there other plastic covers that are supposed to be fit??
