w124performance website

w124performance.com has been used by me several times over the past few years. I have really appreciated the effort it took to make it available.

Today I was wondering how many hits would show up if I did a search on ' w124performance '.

There appears to be over 500 different posts.

I'd sure hate to lose access to this site. Any ideas how it can be setup/hosted to reliably have it available.

A few other sites I've used have possibly are no longer available. One is w123-zone, now when I click on my link it brings up a scam type page.

Sure would hate to see this w124performance site disappear.

It's been up and running for many years....run by a forum member.

I understand that. I'm sure a few of the other websites that are no longer available were also run by a member of this forum &/or other Mercedes forums

What I'm concerned about is what happens if the person gets tired of the hassle, the expense, they become disabled or die.

Looks to me that the website expense of time and money would best be done by a company such as Pelican Parts/peachparts forum, or other similar, hopefully long lasting entity.

I don't know if a website hosting can be paid for mutiple years in advance. If so, I think several us would be willing to contribute funds for that to happen.

A lot of thought and time goes into preparing the content and making it available. Sure would hate to lose access.

Good question about pre-paying for hosting years in advance. I don't think it's possible, but I'd like to know if anyone has done something similar. In the meantime, don't worry, the site contents are backed up regularly and could be resurrected if anything were to happen to the current hosting setup.

Thank you @gsxr! As well, some of us regularly download a copy of all the contents on the site (using site sucker), to a separate physical location, some 1000+ miles away, as an additional backup that could be hosted ….. just in case 😉

I sure do appreciate gsxr keeping the 124 site up. OP is right, lots of good info could be lost easily (including this forum). That happened on the old Chevy ZR2 sites.

I try to submit useful pages and info to the way back machine for this reason. I’m not sure if it archives all files though.

Is there any way to make it a ' sticky ' link?
