Manual Heater Valve Bypass
 

Hello all,

The heater valve (manual climate control, not a monovalve) for my 82' 240D has started leaking.
While I find an affordable part, is there a way to bypass it in the meantime? I don't need heat right now, so if I connect the 3 hoses with some fittings and clamps, would that do the job? I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything. I certainly don't want to endanger my heater core somehow. Thanks!

Side note: has anyone figured out a way to repair these units? I'm assuming an oring in mine has gone bad, but the plastic body doesn't look servicable.

if you connect all three hoses together you will have the heat on at max all the time. what you need to do to bypass the heat is to connect the two hoses coming out of the firewall together to make one hose and then install a closed valve between this one combined hose and the remaining hose leading back to the t-stat housing. hope this helps.

To delete the heat:
1) Remove the center hose (check that it comes from the cylinder head) from the triple valve. Plug that hose.
2) Locate the heater water return pipe (either in the lower radiator hose, or the thermostat housing) on the right side of the engine. Follow that pipe back to the firewall. Remove the hose from the firewall fitting, and plug it also.

Thank you! I hadn't even considered plugging anything, because I assumed the heater core was part of the circuit and needed to flow. Thanks for the detailed instructions, I may do exactly that.
