1985 300sd exhaust pipe hitting frame

1985 300 SD

I have a clank which, seems to originate near the transmission tail shaft, that shows up under moderately hard acceleration (as if!). It sounds like the exhaust pipe hitting ... something. I've replaced the transmission mount and 4 exhaust hangers but haven't resolved the issue.

I found a post from 2019

1984 300DT: replaced air cleaner mount, exhaust still clank clank clanks at idle.

which states "Will need a new down pipe bracket to gearbox fixing kit from Mercedes .The rubber bushes inside the bracket they wear out and fell on to the road .Heat is a big problem with these rubber insulators . I had the same problem and i used all sorts to stop it but in the end a new bracket fixed the problem on mine."

Does anyone know the part name or stock number of this item, and where it is located? I had planned on engine mounts next but this post is nearly identical to my problem.

Thanks

Follow up

Since many of these problems don't have a resolution posted I want to follow this one up.

The rubber liner of the driveshaft center support had completely separated. The banging under acceleration was apparently the drive shaft moving around in the metal shell as there is no evidence of anything hitting the tunnel.

This turned out to be an easy fix. Remove the heat shield above the exhaust, (why I could not visually inspect the center support), lower the exhaust, and pull the back half of the driveshaft after marking for realignment.

Once on jack stands it was about a two hour task. No banging and what I considered a very minor driveline vibration is now gone. I would have bet money that it was the exhaust pipe. YMMV.

Understand, they're self locking or Ny-loc type fasteners and the nuts, at least, shouldn't be reused. I *might* disagree about the bolts. If the threads are good, and they haven't been over-torqued, they should still be good.

It's a belt and suspenders type thing, but I use blue loctite (272 maybe, I forget) on everything.
