Question 240D or 324td ???

Hi everyone,

My uncle is selling his bmw 324td for and do a price for me
(3000$ and otherwise it's 5000$).
The car is from 1988, has 100 000 km (62k) and looks almost like a brand new car.

This car is funny to drive, the 6 cyl has a nice sound and good performance (115hp).

I don't know what i have to do. The price is interesting but this engine doesn't have a good reputation of reliability (contrary to my 240D !!) but it's random. Some guys succeed to do 200k without any problem but some others have to replace the head and the injection calculators in order to do 200k.

And if I buy it, I would be obliged to sell my 240D because I don't have the use of 2 cars.

What do you think of that ?

You're right, it's the same engime that on the 524td except maybe some minor modifications in the US (EGR ...) to met the antipollution laws.

BMW vs MBZ

gnolo,

The BMW has a rubber timing belt instead of the double steel chain like in your 240D. So if you insist in driving the BMW, get the belt changed now! Then change it every 60,000 miles or else!!!

Ben
