whats leaking?

I have some various oil leaks, and see three main areas that they are coming from. I am not sure of the technical terms exactly for these, so the terms and what is failing would be appreciated.

1. The seal between the top cover on the engine (the one with the oil filler and Daimler star on it) and the middle portion (prechamber?) that has thew glow plugs attached to it.

2. The seal between the middle portion with the glow plugs attached and the lower part (engine block).

3. The round piece directly before the turbo that has one small rubber line coming from it.

If my poor explanations arent sufficent, Ill take pics with arrows pointing to the spots, but perhaps someone can understand me...
ANy help is most appreciated. Thanks very much

1. sounds like the valve cover gasket
2. sounds like the head gasket (probably a result of oil leaking from the valve cover gasket, I doubt the head gasket is leaking)
3. sounds like the wastegate cover or a wastegate hose that needs replacing.

thanks!

Tahnks very much, any idea of the associated costs? Is the valve cover gasket a DIY job? Does it get replaced when you do a valve adjustment?
Thanks

Yup, vc gasket should be replaced when a valve adjustment is performed. It is a DIY job. If you take it to a shop, expect to pay $75 to $85. Look on fastlane for the parts costs. Pretty cheap IMO. Good luck.

3 yrs back when I did my valve cover gasket replacement, I was scared when I looked at all those throttle linkages. Took a video camera and made a small clip about the location of all linkages etc.
Then I took apart some of the linkages so that valve coner can be lifted freely, opened th bolts of valve cover, and thats it, cleaned the edges on cover and body, put the new gasket( I used MB original because then I was not aware of fastlane or other alternative sources).

Whole thing took about 1 hour. I did not have to see the video again to see what goes where. If I had to do it today, I think I can do it in 30 minutes.

Also, if you need valve adjustments, this would be a good time to do it, as you are already opening the valve cover. However its a bit tricky so dont do it if you dont have experience on that part. Also it may need special wrenches. But it will be a good Idea to read the procedure for the valve adjustment and then mentally doing the job while looking at the valves. This way you get alittle comfortable feeling when you actually do that job in future. I might sound crazy on that mental job thing. But for me that trick has always worked on all DIY projects, whether its replacing fuel filter or doing a more complex job of replacing upper control arm or fixing the AC control panel.
