CDI B-pillar switch has broken

Has anyone had to replace the B-pillar switch in their E320 CDI or other W211 Mercedes? Mine just shattered (physically, not electrically) and the car now thinks the door isn’t closed. Consequently, it complains, bitterly and continually. I’d like to pull the old switch out of the hole and pop in a new one but suspect it may take some disassembly. I’d appreciate hearing from anyone who has done this job.

Pictures show the broken switch and the passenger-side unbroken switch.

You should be able to get to it by removing the door panel. Youtube the procedure to remove panel.

Wrong panel

Yes, lots of YouTube procedures, but the switch is not in the door, it’s in the B-pillar. I suspect removal of the interior trim on the B-pillar will be required. I’d simply like to hear from someone who’s been there before I tackle the job.

Other cars including other models of mercedes I've simply popped out the switch unplugged it, plugged in the new switch and popped it back in. No removal of any panels...

Different switch

My 123 and 124 cars all used switches that pop out from the front and are
pretty much interchangeable. The 211 is different, alas. The switch has to be removed feom inside the B-pillar. Wasn’t too bad a job, I didn’t have to remove the interior trim, just pry it loose to create working space.
