what is the purpose of the air flow meter?
any reason for it to be missing,no hooked up?
wouldnt a check eng light pop up with it missing?
its a deisel with the older machanical injecter pump so....

I don't think this has a check engine light. It might interfere with turbo boost and EGR function if that hasn't been modified or deleted yet. These engines are all mechanical, I don't think it uses an air flow meter to determine fuel injection.

I don't see a egr stuff.there is a block off plate on the exhaust manifold.
then there appears to be a boost adjuster valve online from intake to the wastegate

The AFM on these engines is used to determine if the EGR is functioning, and will disable the electronically controlled wastegate if it detects a malfunction. There is a way to bias it to simulate the EGR function and use the electronic wastegate system with an EGR delete. Or most people swap it for a pressure controlled wastegate actuator.

Yours has been modified with an EGR delete and pressure controlled wastegate already, and will deliver constant boost. In this case, the AFM is not performing any function.

thats great news,I eas afraid I was going to have to round up a afm and all the vacuum actuators.
now I can work on the monovalve radiator and transmission

If you still have the actuator hanging on the "air flap" you can easily convert it to an intake air shutoff as I detailed in this thread.

This results in a smoother shutdown and also allows you to kill a potential runaway just by turning off the key.

yea, there's nothing.just an open hole to the turbo inlet
