I want to install new injectors in my 82 300td

If I source from pelican, do they still need to be pop tested? I don’t want to test myself. Are there sources where I can buy already tested injectors?

I'd reach out to forum member greazzer for both advice and injectors.

In theory Bosch rebuilt injectors should meet Bosch specs. But the variance/balance of pop pressures within Bosch's spec has a wider spread than is preferred by many here and mass rebuilder may not be as picky with the spray pattern or that leak test where they bring up the pressure to 10 psi below the opening/pop pressure and see if the nozzle drips of pees out below the opening pressure.

I looked on the Pelican site and it looks like they’re all different part numbers for om61x variants. They’re likely all set up for the car you purchased them for. I’d take a minute to call the parts expert at pelican and just ask. He’s a pretty competent guy and will likely verify this for you.

I would say just install them and go. See how it runs. You’ve paid $200 for injectors now.

You could do the following if the car runs poorly after installing. Take the injectors to greaser as mentioned. Or, take them to a diesel engine repair place and have them pop tested. Any competent shop will have a pop tester.

Alternatively you could buy a cheap tester online. I see them currently for as low as $70 shipped. I’ve heard they are low quality and often leak but I bet you could get one to work well enough to verify your pressures and spray patterns.

My recollection from threads here over the last decade is the Bosch nozzles were hit and miss. The machining requires tight tolerances and the threads here said the work was shoddy like those awful videos on YouTube of guys in South Asia making cheap auto parts. I would definitely pop tested them myself but I already own a tester that I bought second hand here many years ago. It kind of made sense after owning four of these cars.

If they're the modern Bosch injectors, they'll have the nozzles made in India. If you haven't ordered new injectors, save your money and pay to have the old ones fitted with new nozzles of higher quality. As mentioned above, contact Greazzer, he does good work. The Indian Bosch nozzles have a terrible spray quality and have a nasty habit of binding up. I went down this path with my 300SDL 10+ years ago and regretted it. Even the injector holders are of poor quality and I never could get two of them to stop leaking where the hard lines attached. Later examination showed they were cracked. Never had that with the originals, having serviced dozens of them for myself and friends. It's your money...

What higher quality Nozzles are people using these days? And the next question is where they are getting them?

I get all my injectors from greazzer.
Of course, he lives 90 minutes from me...

I've had zero issues with several sets of Firad 265 and 314's I've used for myself and various friends cars. Been a hot minute since I've bought any. Peachparts filters out the name of any competitors apparently, but Google can get you there.
