can someone identify this part?
 

just realized I apparently can’t post a photo, as I’m on my phone. Anyway, I broke a clear plastic line that runs from a fitting on the right rear of the engine, just below the valve cover and loops over the top of the engine and then disappears into the firewall near the brake booster. It snapped off right at the fitting on the engine. I’m assuming it’s a vacuum line but someone here can hopefully explain what it is. I’ll cap off the open ends for now, and I’ll try to post a photo from the computer. The line was very brittle and a small length of it is still on the nipple of whatever device that is… it was getting dark so I called it quits.

It is for the turbo boost solenoid near the master cylinder. Just replace the line, also remove the "banjo" bolt it attaches to at the intake manifold to check that the banjo bolt passageway is clean. The banjo bolt has two sealing washers, don't lose them. Until it is fixed the car will have a lot less power.

Can you splice it together temporarily with rubber hose and clamps?

thanks-for some reason I thought it went into the firewall...like I said, it was getting dark. Can I just use a short length of similar hose and connect it to the remaining original with a connector? Anyone know the dimensions of the hose, and is there a reason they used clear plastic instead of the typical black vacuum line? Oh, it's a 1983 300TD, 617 engine
