A/C Drain '85 300D
For the life of me, I can't find the a/c drain. Every time I use the a/c, drivers floor gets wet, and there is no water running underneath the car. I'm looking around the tranny area, just can't seem to find it, any help. Thanks

I think it comes out directly in the center. On the 240D it's easier to find because the engine does not block your view. Get on your old clothes and feel around directly behind the engine at the bottom of the firewall and even further back.
Good luck, |

Take the console cover off, it's easier. You can then have someone else stuff a piece of hose up from underneath while you guide it with a long pair of needle-nosed pliers onto the drain. You can also slide it in from the side and get it on the drain, then stuff it through the hole in the floor.
The original is a piece of foam tubing. Use heater hose to replace it. Peter

Hi!
I just exchanged the heater box from my old junked 1985 300DT to a 1984 300DT. What a job. The A/C drain is accessed by pulling up the passenger floor mats and finding the three grommet opening on the firewall. It is in the middle of the kick panel. The A/C drain is the left most rubber fitting and can be pulled off the evaporator drain box. It is a few inches long and was "gunked" up with oily crud. Just clean it up and replace it. (the rubber drain from the Florida car was badly deteriorated but the Canadian 1985 one was in good shape!) |

If you take out the passenger side underdash panel, you can reach it. It is on the centerline of the car, way up forward above the transmission hump. It is made of crappy foam material which just crumbles into powder, however, I had a hard time finding anything better to use for that specific application.
After you replace the evaporator drain, take out the glovebox and replace the aspirator hose for the Auto Climate Control. It is made of the same crappy material, and is almost certainly nothing left but crumbs. I used a piece of vinyl tubing for this application.
