a/c belt won't stay tight

The a/c compressor belt on my 300td will not stay tight for any period of time. I have tightened it twice already this summer by loosening the mounting bolts and tightening the tensioner nut but each time after just a couple of weeks the belt becomes very loose. I wonder if anyone else has experienced this problem, or am I missing something in my tightening procedure?
Thanks for any input!
Jeff

I would check to make sure it is the correct "width" belt.

the correct belts are wider than the "standard" Discount Auto Parts belts. Had this problem on my 240d this year until I ordered the real German belts from Fastlane. The correct belt will fill the pully to the point that it looks a little to wide.

Also, has this car been converted to r134. If so, more pressure is required for 134 adding strain to the belt.

As they said, check for correct belt width.

Have a great day,

I'm having the same problem. Don't know why or how to fix it. My car has been converted to 134a, so maybe that causes the belts to slip, which wears it, and then becomes loose (i.e., its loose not because its stretching, but because of the accelerated wear from the slipping). I say this because I have a lot of belt dust in the area. I just tighten it and feel happy that I have a/c on these 100 degree summer days!
