"85 300SD transmission flare fix? Pro help, please

My 300SD transmission would frequently flare and not want to go into high gear. The fix was to crank a turn on the pressure adjuster and it then worked fine for 3-4 weeks.
I now have the engine out for a rebuild and am willing to give the transmission a go if the fix isn't too difficult? Is this a simple fix or way too complex for an amateur?

I'd leave tranny overhaul to the pro's. I build them pretty often and still have to go line by line redoing the valvebodys. Not to mention the measuring and compressing tools needed to set the packs set up right.

"and it then worked fine"

So whats the problem? If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Steve,
I was assuming that someday I would run out of "turns" and I'd be stuck with a trans that wouldn't shift into high gear. Am I wrong and I could conceiveably use this fix "forever"?

As long as the engine is out- turning the crank and installing new bearings, I thought it a good time to attempt the transmission too, i.e. the 3-4 upshift kit.

Your advice would be warmly welcomed as is Joe's.
