Clear fog light lens
 

Yet another seemingly random question based on something I just thought about *lol*

I've curently got an amber fog light lens on one side of the car, and a clear lens on the other side. I'd like to replace the amber with another clear lens (I also want to eventually wire a few things so they can be on with the high beams to complement 'em as that's the only time I'd really want to use them anyways), but Fastlane appears to only have the amber lens.

Is the clear lens available in new condition anywhere? If so, I may get two and replace the current clear one as well just to be anal. :)

Well I gave up on those fog lights long time back. I replaced them with regular seal beams( non halogen small seal beams). I had to get rid of fog light connectors attach adapters for the regular seal beams.

Now when I need xtra vision at night, I just pull the knob and I have 4 lights giving me plenty of light at night. After all fog lights are rarely used, I rather have more light for driving at night than fog lights.

Actually, I like the sealed-beam idea, although, if they're available in the correct size, I'd rather get halogens.

Did you have to do any physical modifications to fit it in, or does it fit right into the spot? Also, what size lights did you use?

The wiring setup you're talking about sounds a lot like what I want to do...how exactly did you do the wiring?

I rewired the fog lights on my old 300D so they could come on in any position of the headlight switch! And yes, with high beams too! It looked pretty cool driving around with the fogs on with the parking lights only. Anyway. Here's what you'll do.

1.) Disconnect battery. Open up your fuse box. It helps to remove all the fuses, as you'll be taking out the whole box. Helps to have a magnetic screwdriver too.

2.) It will take quite a bit of wiggling, but eventually you'll get the fuse box out and underneath it you'll see a bunch of wires. The wire that you will cut is on slot #11, it is grey, with yellow and green stripes. Cut this wire, strip the end, and crimp on a ring terminal. Wrap it up tightly with electrical tape.

3.) Connect this wire to slot #3, which I beleive supplies power to one of the parking lights. Swap the 16 amp fuse from slot #11 with the 8 amp fuse from slot #3.

What part number sealed beam fits in the fog light space?

I plan on keeping the stock yellow fogs because they look unique. I do have a newer one that is a lot more yellow - time to pony up for another new one I guess.

But knowing the generic part number is good for future reference. Bound to be cheaper than buying the stock fogs.

The sealed beam I have in there is Sylvania type 1C1. These are small round sealbeams fits exactly in place of the yellow light. I had to attach a 2 prong adapter on the back of this seal beam and connect the wire to the original wiring. Very simple job.
Yes you also get the Halogen and Xtra vision Halogen bulbs for these 1C1 size. But my concern was that may be they will draw up too much current when all lights are on- Just my theory so I avoided them. Also my yellow light had cracked lens and gave me a cut when I was wiping the car. So I just got rid of them and replaced immediately with these 1C1. They were about 2 bucks each at National Whoesale Liquidator. So not a bad deal to get a replacement. Again these are regular lights. They are not fog lights.

For what it's worth the only position my fog lights don't come on is when everything is off! I can run straight parking and fog lights. I do that until I need my headlights. I also do it when I don't need any lights, I just love the way it looks!

The 190 (201 chassis) is wired different from the W123 series. The re-wiring scheme I pointed out, was only for W123 cars. As far as I know, all later models were able to run fogs in any position of the headlight switch, including with high beams.

what kind of adapter did you use? and where did you buy it, I am considering doing this to my 126

Ok ther are 2 wires going in the original fog lamp of my car, I disconnected these wires, removed the fog lights, replaced them with 1c1 seal beams. The adaptor that goes in the back of these sealed beam is a 2 prong plug. Just take the seal beam 1C1 with you to any auto store, ask them for the adaptor that fits on the back of this light. This adaptor will have two wires at the end of it. Solder or tape each of these with each of the wire that you took out from original fog light.
Its simple. I did this 3 yrs back and this is the best i remember. My car is 1985 300 turbo D 123. I hope it applies to you all as well so check on that too.

Has anyone else tried the rewire that I posted about? Make sure you use the same gauge of wire as the original.
