I bought my diesel at an Exxon for a while, but there are no more in my area, they all switched to Union 76.

Eric, that is mighty low milage for a '79. How long have you had it, and, any major problems?

I have had it for a little over 2 years, and I have had very little problems. I had a string of bad batteries and the tourque converter broke which broke the front pump on the transmission and I ended up getting the whole transmission replaced. The car was well maintained until it was parked for 4 until I bought it, so I have been slowly fixing things.

We have a Exxon near us, but their diesel is marked "Esso". Not sure if that's the same or not. But it's what I was using when I first bought my SD. The old 220D's I had ran fine on it, so figured what the heck. It's about 10 cents/gallon cheaper than anyone else in the area. Then I went to Texaco one day because it's closer and was in a hurry. Big difference. I felt like I gained 10 HP and it idled smoother.

Thats interesting, the noted difference in performance between brands. There are a lot of truck stops in my area, I may shop around. I believe Exxon and Esso are one in the same, in fact in the US it was Esso and they changed the name to Exxon.

Eric, that trans. problem sounds like a freak thing. I will say that as much as I despise automatic (slide-o-matic), power robbing transmissions, I like the one in my '79TD. Shifts firmly, and I basically can control the shift points with the fuel peddle. Who ever heard of a granny gear in an automatic? Pretty crazy! I also have a list of items, the usual seats, sunroof gaskets, rear air chambers (wagon), dash lights, odometer.......
