Tranny hack fix
 

On my 300d the steel cooler line from the tranny to the front of the car cracked while on the highway. My quick and dirty fix was to splice a piece of rubber fuel hose with clamps in it's place. Worked fine, still not leaking. MB wants almost $300.00 for the steel line, have not found it here at Fastlane but also not called in to check. Does anyone know if the fix I came up with is ok, or am I looking at failure very soon and should I replace this line? Saw the leak before any damage to the tranny, looked like a fogging machine when it broke. Since I carry extra fluids, hose, etc was able to fix on the side of the road.

A good torch man can braze it. Have to get it clean and dry though.

Good torch man COULD have brazed it at the time. However I didn't have my torch kit along for the ride and I cut the tube with a hacksaw to splice in the the rubber hose. Like I said, quick and dirty roadside repair:D

I think it is a permanent repair. I installed an additional transmission cooler on my Olds Custom Cruiser 8 years ago by splicing into the line with rubber hose. It's still running fine with no problems. All the add-on transmission coolers I have ever seen come with rubber hose.

I've several of those lines clogging up my garage since ZI've converted all my cars to manual trans missions. If you'll tell me which side it came from I'll check. How's $5.00 and postage.

will be happy to pay for this line. It is from the rt. hand side, has a clip holding it to the oil pan. This is where it broke, figure the rubber went bad and vibration rubbed a hole.
Also figure the repair I made will last just fine but I don't like it. Weak link is what it feels like to me. Just glad I noticed it before I cooked some clutches.

Not for long term
 

This fix got me home. I found a good line to replace the bad one last night and picked it up today. The rubber fix split tonight when I started the car to go to the store. While it did work long enough to get me home and did last a couple of weeks don't expect something like this to be a long term fix.
