Anyone installed a keyless entry on a 123?
My wife is really asking for one, but all the threads describe it for the 124 or 126 which have an electrically driven vacuum pump.
For the 123 chassis, it appears that a single actuator attached to the master vacuum element in the drivers door could do the trick. But if it is that simple, it would seem like someone around here would have posted on it. Anyone?

Did all the wiring and actuator installation, and ALMOST had the system working on my old car. Until the incident that is. You will need a power door lock motor which will physically move the driver's lock upward. There IS room in there for it. Not a problem. The wiring is pretty simple, but you'll need relays to flash the parking lights upon unlock.

here is a dumb idea.
13 years ago I bought a new VW jetta. Last year I donated it, but not before removing the power door lock vacuum motor and a couple of the elements. I think it is the same pump that the 124/126s use.
I am wondering if I can use that as a motor/actuator and run the single tube out to the actuator to push the master cylinder. Anyway, I will look into that.

Keyless Locks:
I can't comment on the VW system, but here is how we did it.
Bought a Vipor Alarm and the option of the electric door lock mechanism. The alarm come with the wiring harness for the door module. We hooked it below the vacume actuator. So when it locked it pulled down and unlocked just the reverse. There are a lot of different model to pick from in alarms. We purchased at Ciruit City. They installed alarm included in cost of alarm we did the doors. That scared the #%$% out of them. It wasn't that hard. You will have to pull door panel and the panel under steering colum to fish the wires. Charlie |

Primal Locks
Next time you get a chance to rent or watch Primal Fear check out Richard Geer's 123 coupe (looks like a diesel badge on the trunk but not sure) anyway he's got a way cool keyless system.
