Bi-lingual speedo
Found a use for the km/hr numbers on my speedo finally! We took a trip up to Canada yesterday. Was I glad to have those numbers! I could actually go the right speed, without having to do the math in my head while trying to figure out where I was going.
Was much easier getting into canada at the border then coming back to the USA. Got grilled fairly well. But happy to report, no full cavity search was needed. Just in case any one out there is going to be going across the border either way, you need either a certified birth certificate with a photo ID, or a passport now. That's thanks to our "friends" in afghanistan. BTW, Buchart Gardens on Vancouver Island MUST be experienced! It's an awsome place if you care at all about posies and lanscaping ect.

I just got back last week from Canada and found the km on the speedo very helpful...it was nice to be able to put it to use finally. Maryland to Montreal/Quebec and the old wagon took it well. Avg 80mph on hwy...except for the big hills. My border crossing was almost non-existant...'where are you from', 'where are you going', 'do you have weapons', 'how long will you be here'...not even and ID check. It was even easier getting back into the US...'where did you go?' And that was it! I guessI dont fit a profile. Take care. |

Speaking of speedometer info, I just picked up my new 190D in Chicago with the intention of taking it back to Vancouver, BC.
While I was at the DMV getting my 10 Day trip permit, a very helpful but misguided clerk screwed his face into the most serious look, and asked me why I wanted to buy a car in the US to take to Canada. I told him that primarily, I knew this car very well, and knew it was a good deal. Secondly, well, there was just no second reason. Reason No.1 was enough. So then, he paused, thought about how he might express his next jewels of wisdom to me, then continued. "Two things," he said to me. "First, I have no idea of the exchange rate between the Crown and the Dollar.........." I resisted the temptation to comment on that one. "Secondly," he went on, "did you know that your speeds are posted in kM/hr, and our speedometers are labeled in Mph? Did you consider that?" Again I resisted the temptation to be a smart ass, considering he was trying to be helpful. I thanked him for his input, and told him I had indeed considered that, and that my vehicle was labelled with both kM/hr, and Mph, so I should be ok. Now, I'm on my way. I figure about $99 worth of fuel oughta get me home. No idea how many Crowns it would take though. Too bad I'll miss the meet in Seattle. Probably by about 2 days.

Don't tell me, you want to get together to compare kill stories?
Actually, since I'm a newby, any advice or constructive comments are welcome, and I'd also love to see if other diesels run as well as this one seems to. Let me know, and I'm there.

Well, since I got 3 MB Diesels in the driveway, why don't we have a meet/BBQ it at my house! That way if the wife goes in labour, we have plenty of vehicles to choose from to get her to the hospital.
Of course, if I dont have my 300CD running by then and we run out of things to talk about....
