ignition light means ignition electrical good?

Loving this '72 220D and working out the problems; getting it home from Memphis was memorable. You become grateful for small blessings when your car's 30 years old

The pull-knob "starter" on the dash, I believe is not working and my question is:
THE ALTERNATOR LIGHT WILL LIGHT UP WHEN THE KEY's in the operating (on) position. Does this mean the ELECTRICAL components associated with this knob are good?

In other words: Is the light powered with the ignition's electrical wiring?

The starter was jumped off to get me going and the problem apparently is with the pull-knob and it's functions.

Any experiences, knowledge, and knob know-how out there?
